Our network radio and news teams are also a big part of the plan and we’re confident will hit our target of 50% of radio spend outside the M25 by 2027. To turbocharge the plan, we’re also strengthening our creative presence in the Midlands and North East of England, with new programmes, investment and training partnerships to drive growth and build confidence. That’s up 15% in just two years, meaning that we are well ahead of our goal of reaching 60% by the end of the Charter period. In the last 12 months alone, 58% of BBC network television spend was invested outside the M25 – more than £900m. To date, we have transferred over £150 million of expenditure outside London. From the outset, we committed that the BBC would spend at least an extra £700 million across the UK between 2021//28. The financial impact of the plan is already clear. It confirms that we are performing strongly against many of our targets, while highlighting a number of areas where we need to do more to meet our ambitious programme of change. ![]() The goal is to bring the BBC closer to its audiences across the country and, today, the National Audit Office has published a report on the BBC’s progress – two years into our six-year plan. The plan represents a blueprint for the BBC’s biggest transformation in decades, designed to move more of our programming and decision making away from London.
